MY WHY

As a native Detroiter and the proud product of a family of public servants, I learned early the value of using your power and whatever privilege you might possess for good.  I witnessed my parents, grandparents, and mentors advocate for civil rights, especially for people and communities that continue to be left behind or treated as if they are invisible to society.  It has been my mission and ministry, both personally and professionally, to combine my love and passion for people, science, environment, and love for community.  Empowering a Green Environment and Economy, LLC is the manifestation of that vision.  I’d be honored to take what I’ve learned and what I’ve experienced across working in multiple sectors and in my recent role as the first Federal Chief Environmental Justice Officer at the White House Council on Environmental Quality, to change YOUR challenge into opportunity.

I look forward to empowering a green environment and economy with YOU! Let’s EMPOWER each other.

Empowering Environmental Justice

Our aspiration is environmental justice - where every person, in every community, of every racial and ethnic background, in every income bracket is able to live in an environment and community that is safe, healthy, and sustainable.  We commit to working with communities, faith-based organizations, non-profits, local and state governments, and corporations to help make environmental justice a reality.

Empowering a Resilient Ecosystem

Our intention is to strengthen the social, political, physical, and policy infrastructure to help communities better prepare, respond, recover, and be revitalized despite the increasing frequency of climate impacts.  We commit to working with communities, institutions, scientists, cities, and others to create more resilience across the board.

Empowering a Health Community

Our goal is to create an environment in which public, private, and community partnerships are developed to advance environmental protection and improve public health.  We commit to adding capacity, guidance, support, and research to reduce health risks in the places people live, work, study, and play.

Empowering Equitable Solutions

Our plan is to design policy, programming, research agendas, and organizational infrastructure to help transform systems and institutions in a way that equity is no longer an after-thought, but a part of the process and desired outcomes.  We commit to making sure any analysis of any solution centers low-income communities, communities of color, and other populations that have been marginalized.
